If you’re looking to make varsity or want a mileage t-shirt, joining Gilbert’s Gazelles for the months of June and July (or just one of those) is highly suggested. Gilbert Tuhabonye (google him) coaches all of the classes. If you would like to go three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday), the cost is $75/month. If you’d like to only go to the Saturday long runs, then it’s $35/month. The Gilbert’s Gazelles website where you can sign up and pay is linked below:
There are classes every day of the week except Friday and Sunday at 5:30 am, 7:00 am, and 5:30 pm. On Friday there are strength classes available to all Gazelles in the morning. The more advanced adult class happens T/Th/S at 5:30 am. On Saturdays, there are long runs with distances from 3 miles to more than we will do, and these start at varying times in the morning depending on your distance. This is an excellent way to build mileage even if you can’t make the weekday practices.
Even if you sign up for the 5:30 am classes T/Th/S (for example) and you accidentally sleep in one morning (which may happen), you can always go to a later class or to one of the M/W classes instead.
If you have trouble signing up, please contact a coach or Sammie Seamon at (512)673-2920 for help. Sammie has done Gilbert’s Gazelles in the past, and is able to answer any questions you have.
